#BeASport is a social media movement that is bringing together top stars to help educate India's youth through style + sport.
On May 8,
Magic Bus and Sher Singh (an online lifestyle clothing brand) launched the #BeASport
campaign: a social media movement that is bringing together top stars from
Bollywood, Cricket and Fashion to raise awareness and funds for Magic Bus. In
this unique initiative, internet and media companies are coming together to
apply innovative social media and e-commerce principles to help scale a
non-profit.
The microsite
pulls in feeds
from a dedicated #BeASport YouTube, Google+,
Facebook
and Twitter
page. The content includes an amazing music
video shot at our Karjat Centre and ongoing weekly Google+ Hangouts
where celebrities will interact with children from Magic Bus and talk about
their journeys. The theme of the program content is One Journey Inspires
Another. The
content is designed to elicit that inspiration for the viewers. The first
Google+ Hangout was Tues May 8 at Tote Mumbai with Yuvraj Singh, Zaheer Khan,
Virat Kohli, Chris Gayle, AB De Villiers, Muttiah Muralitharan, and Daniel
Vittori (members of the Royal Challengers Bangalore team).
The aim is to
maximize traffic to the #BeASport campaign page through the outreach of various
media companies and one of India’s most famous bloggers MissMalini – target is
10,00,000 views by July 1. For each view of the music video and other YouTube
content on the microsite, Magic Bus will receive a 1 Rupee donation, so
10,00,000 views = Rs. 10,00,000 donation to Magic Bus! All the donations raised
through this campaign will be used for the implementation of Magic Bus
programs.

Matthew’s Spacie, Founder-CEO, Magic Bus, says about the campaign: “This campaign is trying to profile the exceptional journey of individuals, many of them sports men and women to get to where they are now. Similarly, Magic Bus takes children and youth, living in poverty on a journey from childhood to livelihood through a world class mentoring programme which uses the metaphor of sport to change behaviours in nearly 3,000 slums and villages and over 200,000 children across India. Sport with mentoring can be used to get children to re-enrol in school, lead healthy lives, confront gender problems and move from poverty. 60% of adolescent children don’t complete school. We are hopeful that this social media campaign will generate much-needed support to enable Magic Bus to help keep a child in school.”
All the donations raised through this campaign will be used for the implementation of Magic Bus programs only.
